Star Wars Rogue One Banner: The Rebels Defy the Empire

2015 saw Star Wars: Episode VII —The Force Awakens gross over $2 billion at the box office, and all eyes will be on Rogue One: A Star Wars Story to see how close it can get when the film hits this December. The spinoff follows Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones) as she leads a group of dedicated fighters to steal the Death Star plans. While Rogue One may be a smaller film compared to its predecessors, the level of marketing is by no means a minor effort from Disney and Lucasfilm.

The large assortment of trailers, TV spots, and posters over the last few months have offered some intriguing new reveals for fans. The footage has showcased everything from the Empire’s dangerous Director Orsen Krennic (Ben Mendelsohn) to massive battle sequences with Stormtroopers and AT-ACTs. And because Star Wars’ massive fan base is global, Lucasfilm has its hands full creating  marketing materials so that everyone can get a piece of the action.

A gorgeous new international banner has been released (via CBM) featuring the rebel team in the midst of battle against Stormtroopers and Deathtroopers. By Jyn’s side is Cassian, Chirrut, Baze, Bodhi and K-2SO. Take a peek below:

The banner is in line with what’s been seen from Lucasfilm so far. Like other Rogue One materials, this one also heavily features the film’s lead characters. It’s hard to think of any successful entry in the franchise that didn’t focus on the characters’ personal journeys, and hopefully that will always be a trademark of why Star Wars is so popular. What’s been most refreshing about the film’s marketing style so far is its extreme diversity. One of the latest posters featured a battered helmet on what seemed to be a shoreline, which felt reminiscent of popular war films from the past. If that wasn’t good enough, the many character posters that have been released feature a wide-range of designs and layouts.

Despite Rogue One not having as much buzz surrounding it as The Force Awakens, the hope is that it will rank among the better entires in the franchise. This is especially true considering the film’s role in setting up Star Wars stories outside the Skywalker family saga. The Force Awakens managed to blend the old with the new, allowing diehard fans to be satisfied while also appealing to younger audiences who might be entering the Star Wars fan base for the first time. So far, it seems like Rogue One is following suit. At a glance the film looks familiar, but it will hopefully prove to be remarkably novel.
