Today, September 30, 2016, is known by Star Wars fans as Rogue Friday. Just like last year’s Force Friday event saw the unveiling of the first wave of merchandise for the hotly-anticipated Star Wars: The Force Awakens, this year’s unofficial holiday marks the first time Rogue One: A Star Wars Story tie-in products are available on shelves. After spending the last few weeks promoting the new line of items, Lucasfilm and their marketing partners are ready to reap the benefits.
As consumers try to decide where exactly they want to spend their money, retailers can make that question easier by securing exclusive products. It may be frustrating for collectors that they can’t get everything all in one place, but it’s a smart business decision for the stores and could lead to an uptick in revenue. It’s no surprise that Wal-Mart is one of the many places with Rogue One toys to call their own, and with the next Force Friday in full effect, they’ve now shared their full list of exclusives.
All in all, Wal-Mart got seven exclusives to show off, and it’s a nice haul indeed. Youngsters will certainly want to get their hands on the battery-powered X-wing ride on vehicle, and the app-enabled Smart R2-D2 droid is sure to be this year’s Sphero BB-8. Clone Wars fans may be interested in buying a Saw Gerrera (played by Forest Whitaker in Rogue One) Funko, and Hasbro collectors will be hunting through the aisles for new additions to the Black Series, including Admiral Ackbar and Lando Calrissian. Check out images of the exclusives in the gallery below:
Fortunately for those who do not have a Wal-Mart nearby (or simply don’t want to deal with the crowds), the products can also be purchased online. For ultimate convenience, many items are eligible for same-day pickup, meaning fans can order what they want on walmart.com and get it in the store on the very same day. It’s nice to see the superstore go the extra mile to make things easier for customers – but people still need to hurry in case anything sells out.
Of Wal-Mart’s exclusives, arguably the biggest must-have for the holiday shopping season is the Smart R2-D2 (it’s the top one chosen by kids). It’s an interactive toy that is equipped with a copious amount of features. Fans can control the astromech’s actions, watch him respond to the presence of other characters, and much more. Perhaps Hasbro’s latest invention can even wake itself up from low power mode like the real Artoo.
There’s plenty to get a hold of as the countdown to Rogue One marches on. Be sure to check out our comprehensive gallery of all the tie-in toys, including the recently announced Jedha Revolt action figure 4-pack that includes Jyn Erso, Saw Gerrera, an Imperial Hovertank Pilot, and Edrio Two-Tubes.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story opens in U.S. theaters on December 16, 2016, followed by Star Wars: Episode VIII on December 15, 2017, the Han Solo Star Wars Anthology film on May 25, 2018, Star Wars: Episode IX in 2019, and the third Star Wars Anthology film in 2020.
