New Star Wars: Rogue One TV Spot — ‘Save the Dream’

After waiting a decade for a new Star Wars adventure to hit the big screen, Disney and Lucasfilm finally brought the highly anticipated Episode VII to theaters, with plans for an eighth and ninth installments as well. But as patient as the Star Wars fandom might be, waiting between episodes of the saga can be tedious – that’s why the Star Wars Anthology films are here.

The first of the anthology films is Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, set between Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith and the original Star Wars, known as A New Hope. The film will be released on December 16, and the marketing game is at its peak right now, with the release of various TV spots to promote the film.

The latest spot is titled ‘Dream’, and it does a good job summing up the premise of the film in 30 seconds. It all starts with Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones) warning the Rebellion about what the Empire’s new superweapon is about and the amount of damage it can cause in the galaxy. What follows are shots of the rebellion in battle, stormtroopers fighting back, and – of course – X-Wing fighters doing their job. The spot also includes a brief look at Darth Vader himself with Orson Krennic (Ben Mendelsohn), the Empire’s director of Advanced Weapons Research, and Saw Gerrera (Forest Whitaker), from Clone Wars.

Rogue One follows Jyn Erso, the Rebel Alliance’s new recruit, and the rest of the rebels as they go on one of the most dangerous missions in the galaxy: steal the design schematics of the Empire’s new superweapon, the Death Star, which as we know, can destroy an entire planet with one button. However, Erso is also on a personal mission to reunite with her father, Galen, who was recruited by the Empire to work on the Death Star project when Jyn was a child.

Although Rogue One is a story in-between episodes of a saga where we already know how things turn out with the Death Star (and now we have a new and improved weapon with the First Order’s Starkiller Base), it will be interesting to see the new characters and stories this film will bring to an already-established universe and whether or not it will give a new perspective to the previous episodes. But certainly the most anticipated moment is the return of Darth Vader to the big screen, and how he and the Empire will deal with the Rebellion trying to sabotage the construction of the deadliest weapon of all.
