This would seem to confirm that the alleged fall out between the two stars is indeed a protracted marketing stunt – back in August, Johnson posted a rant on Instagram aimed directly at his “candy asses” of costars, sparking intense rumors of a rift between him and Diesel. Even then there were suggestions it was an elaborate trick, and now we know the pair’s characters are going to be coming to blows it’s too elegant to not be staged, especially given how front-and-centre it is in the marketing.
Even if the film is going to be dealing heavily with Toretto losing his family unit, that’s not the only thing threatening the crew. Charlize Theron is the film’s main, mysterious antagonist, Cipher, sending the gang on a globe-trotting adventure that explores Cuba, New York City, and the Arctic. She’ll no doubt get more of a look in the new footage, but it’s not too surprising the poster is leaning on a more internal conflict given its high publicity and how affectionately fans hold the core F&F cast.
The poster’s Twitter reveal additionally confirmed when the trailer will air; at 5:05pm PST/8:05pm EST during NBC’s Sunday Night Football. Check back then for more The Fate of the Furious goodness.
