New ‘Avengers 2′ Footage Description: Ultron Bots, Quicksilver, & More!

There are only a few months left to go before the release of Avengers: Age of Ultron, which means that Marvel fans can expect to see marketing being ramped up at an exponential rate from now on, starting with the second trailer that’s set to be revealed next week.

Avengers: Age of Ultron will once again see Earth’s Mightiest Heroes (including a few fresh additions) teaming up to fight a dangerous new enemy. When Tony Stark attempts to create a global peacekeeping program to replace S.H.I.E.L.D., he accidentally births an insane AI called Ultron who is interested in anything but peace and begins a campaign of terror and destruction on the planet, which only the Avengers can stop.

In summer 2014 Marvel Entertainment announced a global partnership with Samsung Electronics, and the two companies came together this week for Samsung’s ‘Night With Marvel’ event, which showcased a range of new Avengers-themed tech that will be featured in the upcoming film.

Samsung also showed an exclusive featurette for Avengers: Age of Ultron that included interviews with the director, cast, as well as a few bits of new footage, and IGN has published a description of what was shown.

“The footage did contain a couple of new scenes, including a shot of what appears to be Ultron bots bursting through the walls of the train in the slow-mo Quicksilver sequence. In another new shot during the villa sequence, Iron Man flies at the camera, leaving tumbling Ultron bots in his wake. A third sequence showed the destruction of a Samsung-owned building.

“The featurette also showed us more extended looks at the Ultron concept art, especially in its broken state, and the piece really brought home the notion that the villain gets more advanced as the movie goes on.”

Speaking in interviews during the featurette, Whedon said that whenever he thought of the Avengers he would think of them fighting Ultron, suggesting that this is the conflict that will really define the superhero team. He also said that he wanted a James Spader-esque actor for the villain role, so he decided to just go after Spader himself. Ultimately he succeeded, and though we’ve only heard a little of Spader’s performance so far, it’s definitely been enough to indicate that Whedon made the right casting call.

The footage described doesn’t reveal much more about the plot, other than the fact that it will include plenty of scenes where Ultron’s bots and the Avengers beat each other up.

Oh, and there will be product placement. Inspire the World, Create the Future.

The Avengers: Age of Ultron releases in theaters on May 1, 2015.
