The film (which was directed by Daniel Espinosa from a script by by Deadpool writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese) is set on the International Space Station and involves a team of astronauts tasked with investigating the first evidence of microbial life found on Mars. This situation literally grows out of hand when the Martian microbes prove to me much more assertive than their Earth counterparts – infecting various crewmembers and forcing them to act against their onetime colleagues.
Olga Dihovichnaya, Ariyon Bakare and Hiroyuki Sanada also appear, rounding out the film’s diverse cast. While Sony has been promoting the film fairly early for a mid-budget feature, Life was originally scheduled to open against Disney’s long-anticipated revival of the Pirates of The Caribbean franchise, Dead Men Tell No Tales, but moved to the less crowded late March release period shortly after the first trailer for the film began to circulate online.
Life opens March 24, 2017.
