John Goodman previously worked in a major supporting role on Rupert Wyatt’s 2014 film The Gambler, which starred Mark Wahlberg (Ted, Transformers: Age of Extinction). While it’s impossible to tell whether Goodman will be serving in a leading role for Captive State, the casting at least suggests Wyatt’s willingness to cast actors that he has previously worked with.

Wyatt has claimed an affinity for the works of Philip K Dick (among whose story’s many film adaptations include Blade Runner, Total Recall, and Minority Report). Piggybacking off that train of thought, /Film asked him if his upcoming projects would strike a similar tone or explore similar themes. Wyatt suggested that the sci-fi projects he is interested in developing are “very grounded and relatable to our world.” That said, don’t expect Captive State to be a space opera.
